Before becoming a mother, my world was defined by literature, language, and
law. Drawing on a PhD in Comparative Literature and a JD, both from Harvard University, I have worked as an educator, interpreter, translator, and attorney, each job built around listening, researching and writing. Now that I have added a child and a family -and all the new ways of being that entails- I have become entangled in the universe of parents, particularly of mothers and motherhood, and am channeling my writing energy into this new forum. I am interested in both the personal and public experiences of parenthood - hence the request for anecdotes- and what they reveal about the status of parents and children in today's culture. Therefore, and in the spirit of travel narratives, this blog is meant to map the land of parenting, in the hope that its travelers will better navigate its territories.
